The Georgia Straight, Sept 11-18th, 2003 In this fabulously freewheeling and absurdist show, aussie artist Jonno Katz offers an alternative creation myth, the tale of a New Zealand manicurist named Alice who survives both a shipwreck with sheep and Hollywood sex to become mother of the next earthly paradise: the Uber Alice. Like the story, the form is full of surprises (a slide show, a cookie break), and just wait for Katz’s homage to American acting. This one’s a bath for the brain, a genuine fringe charmer. -
Colin Thomas Terminal City, Sept 18th, 2003 This play is utterly ridiculous! It's a one-man play by Jonno Katz. God appears; the world is coming to an end and she suggests that if people don't know what to do with their last days, they can write her a creation story for the next world. So emerges this play. A heroine, a Hollywood-type love interest, and a man and his hand (puppet?) on a mission. Whatever it was (creative, absurd, hilarious) it was a blast. - Amanda Thomson
